Since 1982, Project Horizon has served victims of domestic, dating,
and sexual violence. What began as the vision of a small group of
women around a kitchen table has grown into a 24-hour agency
serving Rockbridge county. From working directly with victims
and survivors to providing education and prevention programs to
schools and community organizations, Project Horizon remains
dedicated to reducing domestic, dating, and sexual violence.

24-Hour Hotline

Volunteers and staff operate an anonymous 24-hour hotline for issues of domestic, dating, and sexual violence.
Victims, survivors, their family and friends, and professionals in the Rockbridge area can call 463-2594. A
TTY machine is available for deaf and hard of hearing callers and the AT&T Language Line is available for
non-English speaking clients.

Counseling

Counseling is available for victims, survivors, and their non-abusing families and friends. Appointments can be
scheduled by calling the hotline at 463-2594.

Court Advocacy

Our Court Advocacy Program provides support to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault during civil
and criminal court proceedings. Advocates accompany victims to court dates and appointments with the
Commonwealth's Attorney and answer questions about the court process.

Lisa's House

Lisa's House provides up to 30 days of shelter in a home-like environment to clients who are not safe in their
own homes. Residents work with staff to move beyond the crisis into violence-free, productive and
independent lives. Special services for children help them cope with the violence they have witnessed.

Resource Library

Our Resource Library has a wide variety of books, videotapes, and other materials related to topics such as
domestic violence, teen dating violence, sexual assault, parenting skills, and elder abuse. These materials
can be checked out by community members for a 2 week period.

Education Program

Project Horizon provides education and prevention programs to all 14 schools in Rockbridge County on
issues related to domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, and healthy
relationships.

Outreach Program

The Outreach Program provides education and prevention programs to all three universities in Rockbridge
County, as well as community organizations, churches and businesses.

Volunteer Program

Volunteers are essential to the services Project Horizon provides and are needed in all areas of the agency.
Training is provided on domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and crisis intervention. Volunteers
receive regular supervision and support.

Support Groups

Project Horizon offers weekly support groups, including a relationship violence group and a sexual
assault survivor group.
