Project Horizon is dedicated to reducing domestic, dating, and sexual violence
through crisis intervention services and prevention programs. Volunteers play
an important part in the provision of these services, from answering our 24-hour
hotline to working on special projects. Let us know which of the following
opportunities interest you, or put your unique talents to use by creating your
own position.

Volunteer Positions
Hotline Volunteer
Hotline volunteers provide support and crisis intervention to clients who call our 24-hour hotline.
Crisis training is provided.
Shelter Volunteer
Shelter volunteers take shifts in our domestic violence shelter and provide valuable support to the women
and children who are staying there. Shelter volunteers are also responsible answering the hotline during
their shift. Crisis training is provided.
Office Volunteers
Office volunteers provide important assistance for Project Horizon's services by helping with general office
work, shopping for shelter supplies, and organizing the library. Basic training is provided.
Childcare Volunteer
Childcare volunteers provide childcare during support group meetings, during shelter meetings, and can
also take the children on local outings. Basic training is provided.
Court Volunteer
Court volunteers assist the Court Advocate and other staff in providing services such as accompaniment to
legal appointment or Juvenile/Domestic Relations Court. Crisis training is provided.
Special Project Volunteer
Special project volunteers work on both short and long term projects, from yard work to even planning. No
training is required and the time commitment is flexible.
Group Service Projects
We are always pleased to be selected as a site for group service projects. From yard work to special projects,
we can find an opportunity for most any group. No training is required.

Training
Project Horizon provides all necessary training, including a comprehensive volunteer manual. The Volunteer
Coordinator provides ongoing support and supervision to all volunteers.
Basic training consists of eight hours of training on domestic violence and sexual assault issues, as well as an
agency orientation. These hours count toward the 32 hours required for Crisis training.
Crisis training consists of 32 hours of training on domestic violence, sexual assault, and crisis intervention.
